Warnings
'Battle Chess is a quite typical chess game, but it comes with a twist: all pieces are represented by small, realistic figures that walk around on the chessboard, and when one piece takes another, they both take part in an animated battle. (Mac OS X only) and are available throughout the retail sales world. Favorite favorite favorite. Runs on: Mac OS X 10.4 or later Brutal Chess v.rc Brutal Chess features full 3D graphics, an advanced particle engine, and several different levels of intelligent AI, inspired by the once popular 'Battle Chess' released by Interplay circa. Battle Chess was critically acclaimed and commercially successful, resulting in two official follow-ups as well as several inspired games. Its remake, Battle Chess: Game of Kings, was released on Steam (software) on March 16, 2014. Since there are six types of pieces for each color, and a king cannot capture a king, there are 35 battle animations.
- The Windows 3.x version of this game does not work on 64-bit versions of Windows (see Availability for affected versions).

DOS Version differences[edit]
There are two releases of the DOS version, the first version was a 16-colour only version. The re-release contains both the 16 colour and a 256-colour version.
- The 16-colour version supports all video adapters, but only up to 16-colours.
- The 16-colour version supports Tandy sound if run on a Tandy 1000 computer.
- The 16-colour version requires a minimum of DOS 2.0 or 2.1 with 512KB RAM
- The 256-colour version supports only MCGA/VGA video adapters
- The 256-colour version requires a minimum of DOS 3.1 with 640KB RAM
Note: Some boxes indicate a minimum of DOS 2.0 and other indicate 2.1. The only difference between 2.0 and 2.1 is that 2.1 adds support for the IBM PCjr. Likewise a Tandy 1000 would require at least the special Tandy OEM release of MS-DOS 2.11.

Notes
- ↑ 1.01.11.21.31.41.5File/folder structure within the installation folder reflects the path(s) listed for DOS and/or PC booter game data. For the GOG.com release, file changes in DOSBox are redirected to
/cloud_saves/
even if GOG Galaxy is not used (this folder contains all redirected files, so some files in thecloud_saves
folder might be temporary files or other files that do not contain saves or settings). - ↑ 2.02.1File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in
~/.steam/steam/userdata//622830/
in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (622830) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
